Adventure is on the Horizon!

Little Running Fairy Penguin!
A year ago, I was preparing myself to move across the country. Little did I know that now, I'm preparing for a new and greater adventure! This time, though a little further from home, will be a whole new experience which I can't wait to embark on. Part of growing up is the journeys you make as well as new self discovery. Someone brilliant said that "you don't pick your journeys, the journeys pick you." After living on my own, I'm ready for the next step: a stamp in my passport! I got a passport to use for I.D last year, and I've yet to use it to go anywhere! It went quickly onto my list of things to do to get a stamp or two inside the new pages and embark on adventure. However, this time, instead of going for work, go to give back.

He's so fluffy!
My cousin is currently living in Uganda, working with and helping others every single day and, though this is probably considered tame compared to what he is doing there, I wanted a chance to do some good as well. Now, for my first trip out of the country, South Africa seemed a little too extreme for me (though I'll get there one of these days!) and after some extensive research and pondering, I applied to several programs. I was accepted into a program on the southern coastal area to help restore native habitats that have been destroyed through neglect and natural disasters. And after looking at those preciously sweet koalas and fairy penguins (isn't that just meant for me?), I decided that is where I could make a difference. I'm currently finishing my semester at Weber State and trying to earn the funds to cover the many expenses associated with environmental and global restoration and preservation for this next adventure in my life. I can't tell you where this will take me or what will ensue, but I can say that I am so excited for this opportunity!

Any other questions on this journey I'll be making? Be sure to keep tabs here on my blog- I'll be updating it throughout my progress of preparing, as well as while I'm down under! Or, if you have any specificities, feel free to e-mail me at kellywideman@hotmail.com.

Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.
